“I help to improve patients’ overall quality of life.”
Today, one of Abbey Mobile Physio’s rehabilitation trainers, Kristina, tells us all about her role and why she loves working with rehabilitation patients. She shares behind the scenes insights and tells us why rehab training could be beneficial for you and your loved ones.

What is a Rehabilitation Trainer?
“My role involves working with clients in their own home settings,” says Kristina, “assisting them through customised exercise plans to help in their recovery from operations, injuries, long term health conditions, or to build strength and maintain mobility.”
All clients initially meet with Ben, our physiotherapist, who will assess their condition and make notes on a personalised treatment plan. This is then passed on to one of the rehab team, who will begin meeting with the client regularly to work through the treatment and meet their goals.
“Patients can have a variety of needs, sometimes they might book sessions for a set period of time recommended by Ben, other times we’ll continue working together over a prolonged period to maintain fitness or meet new goals.” For clients with mobility issues, or progressive conditions, this care can be invaluable in supporting their independence and maintaining a high quality of life.
A Specialist Team
What makes our team of rehabilitation trainers so exciting is their diverse background in different health care settings.
“I trained as a learning disabilities nurse at UWE Bristol,” Kristina tells us. “After qualifying, I spent 14 years working for the NHS and Barnardo’s in short break respite centres, caring for children and young adults with autism, severe learning difficulties and complex health needs.”
After leaving nursing to raise her two children, Kristina also spent time caring for family members with complex medical conditions and helping her husband to run their three pubs!
It is this wealth of experience that makes our rehab trainers so special, bringing outside specialist training to a physiotherapy setting and implementing this rich background in care provision. “In my job as a learning disabilities nurse I was supporting patients with daily living skills and mobility. I also supported my dad through MND (Motor Neurone Disease) and continue to support my sister through MS (Multiple Sclerosis), increasing my passion and interest in this work.”

Life-Giving Work
“There are so many things I enjoy about the job,” shares Kristina. These are some of the things that make this life-giving work, for both the client and the trainer:
Meeting new people and helping them through their rehab journey.
Seeing clients achieve their goals, and their joy as they do.
Someone’s smile as you walk through the door.
Getting to know clients - building personalised steps just for them.
Learning about different conditions, growing in knowledge and providing high quality care.
